“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18 HCSB
When I used to quote this scripture in the past I would think that Paul was referring to the time of Jesus’ return. However, as I have been meditating on this scripture recently, I realized Paul was referring to our present. When we suffer, whether it be in our bodies, or trials and tribulations we face, a time will come when Jesus will be glorified in that situation and it will not compare to our suffering.
For example, I remember when I was sick and at the time I thought I could die. I was undergoing chemotherapy, and the drug was causing a lot of side effects and then I started to experience pain in my body. At the time I wanted the suffering to end. I ended up in the hospital and did not know if I was going to get worse or how long I would have to endure this treatment. The day the doctor told me that my numbers were dropping that Indicated I could stop chemotherapy because the tumors were shrinking, I was overjoyed. I kept praising God and testifying on how He healed me. Even today when I tell the story the sufferings are a distant memory but the glory that God revealed to me as Healer has lifted my faith and all I feel is joy when I share my story.
Whatever you are going through, when your prayer is answered or deliverance comes you will be overjoyed. It will be like what you suffered was not such a big deal. The reason is when God reveals His glory in your situation the suffering you endure cannot compare to God’s glory. Your story becomes a testimony for others. What is remembered is how God got you through and revealed Himself in your situation.
How many stories do you have like this? Just remember if you are going through a difficult time right now and the end seems to be so far away, the time is coming when God’s glory will be revealed. What a day of rejoicing that will be.
