John the Baptist was chosen by God to be the forerunner for Jesus. John was preaching a message of repentance. He was telling people the Kingdom of God was near and to repent. He was also baptizing people. By focusing on repentance from their wicked ways, John was preparing their hearts to hear and receive from Jesus. John was not just baptizing but also teaching the people to obey God. John was full of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus comes to John where John was baptizing people to get baptized. Jesus found John then asked to be baptized. John baptized Jesus. John fulfilled the mission he was given by calling men to repentance and baptize them.
John is the perfect example of what we should be doing to prepare the way for the Second Coming of Jesus. We should be telling people to repent and baptize them as Jesus commanded us to do. It would be great that at Jesus’ second coming, if he found us doing His will. Jesus tells us the end will only come when the gospel is preached to all nations. That is why Jesus instructed us to go out to all the world.
